Canada's Blue Jays Claim World Series Matchup Against Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros winning the championship in the 2017 season.

Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their initial championship series after 1993 by beating the Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the ALCS.

Behind by two runs, the star outfielder smashed a three-run blast in the seventh frame, propelling the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series win in the seven-game series. They will now face the defending champions, who are the defending champions, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"It's incredible for everyone here, the city, our country," Springer stated, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an amazing experience."

Springer has now slugged twenty-three playoff homers, making him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).

"There's probably not anyone else anywhere that I'd prefer in that situation besides Springer with his playoff prowess," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, after leading the early in the series, continue to be the one club never to appear in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it's going to sting" in the wake of his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but praised their performance in the campaign.

"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we ended up on the losing end of this game," he remarked.

The Blue Jays secured the championship on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
