Iranian Forces State Attack on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing assault against it by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is uncertain and the US has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - stated they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with high efficiency and destroyed a number of missiles," the statement continued.
It said wreckage fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
