The former personal attorney for Donald Trump has resigned as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor. This comes after a legal ruling that questioned her legal standing to serve.

Attorney General's Statement

The head of the Justice Department, Pam Bondi, accepted the prosecutor's departure on Monday. She commented that the judicial decision made it unworkable for her to perform her duties.

"Do not interpret adherence to the ruling as defeat," Habba stated. "This battle will now stretch across America."

Court Ruling

Her resignation was triggered by a US appeals court found that she had been acting without proper authority as the top prosecutor. This ruling is could influence many criminal cases in the Garden State.

The court declared that a temporary posting that bypassed confirmation by the US Senate breached the federal law governing appointments.

Bondi said that the former prosecutor will continue working within the justice department as a senior adviser. Habba plans to seek further review of the disqualification, with hopes of a overturned decision.

Writing online, she contended that the court "must not second-guess the appointment of prosecutors tasked with performing the fundamental role of the presidency of enforcing the law."
