The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes several notable adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it provides more options for players looking for alternative ways to have fun with the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and another details everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Community Input

All that said, players have valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

If the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
