The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
